Anniversary edition of WFSC-001 is digitally released and available on streaming platforms
The Wilhelm Furtwängler Society of China is a nonprofit artistic organization accredited by descendants of the maestro. Like the Société Wilhelm Furtwängler and the Japanese Society (日本フルトヴェングラー協会), one of the main activities of the Chinese Society is to release excellent historical recordings that have been digitized and restored. On 1 September 2021, the society released its first album since its establishment, using high-quality and rare vinyl as the audio source. This limited edition CD is currently out of print, and there are no plans to repress it due to the high cost of producing physical records. In order to allow more Fürtwängler enthusiasts and music lovers to enjoy this album, we have decided to release a commemorative digital edition of WFSC-001, and make it available on all major streaming platforms worldwide. This is a significant progress because we are the first Fürtwängler society among all others worldwide to provide streaming audio.
In order to achieve superior sound quality compared to the original version, the new edition was not improved upon the existing audio, but rather re-processed from scratch. It utilized better hardware equipment, updated and more precise software restoration techniques, and the experience accumulated from the previous two society releases, resulting in meticulous restoration. This process enhanced the clarity of the background, increased the amount of information, made the sound more full and rich, and improved the fidelity to the original recording. The specifications of the new production remain at 24-bit 192kHz, and the society will provide uncompressed high-bitrate digital files. It is believed that those who have already listened to WFSC-001 will be pleasantly surprised by the new edition, and it will also allow more people who haven’t had the opportunity to hear it to appreciate the society’s uncompromising standards for remastering. The high-bitrate digital files for WFSC-002/4 will be released at a later date following the release of this new edition.
We hope that music lovers and Fürtwängler fans worldwide can enjoy the maestro’s artistry with the most advanced audio quality. The new edition of WFSC-001 will be available for free on major streaming platforms.
